CLARENCE SPADY & THE ELECTRIC CITY BAND
Clarence Spady is thoroughly motivated when it comes to his career.
“Here we are in the saddle,” says the veteran blues guitarist. “I’ve got both hands on the reins right now. So I don’t plan on letting go.”
Excellent news for contemporary blues fans who are well aware of Spady’s acclaimed 1996 album, “Nature of the Beast,” and his equally impressive 2008 followup, “Just Between Us.”
Born into a musical family in Paterson, N.J., Clarence Spady played blues guitar with his father and uncle, and made his stage debut at age 5, playing “High-Heel Sneakers” at the local Elks Club.
Through the ‘80s, he got plenty of experience playing in the R&B band A Touch of Class and Greg Palmer’s Pennsylvania-based band.
In the early 1990s he started his own West Third Street Blues Band in Scranton, where he still lives. “Nature of the Beast,” was nominated for a W.C. Handy Award for Best New Blues Artist, resulting in great success as a touring band and regular gigs at Terra Blues in Greenwich Village.
He won a Blues Music Award for Soul Blues Album of the Year for “Just Between Us” and he recently released a new album, “Surrender” (Nola Blue Records).
