THE DIRTY DOZEN BRASS BAND
Founded in 1977 as The Dirty Dozen Social Aid and Pleasure Club of New Orleans by bass drummer Benny Jones, this band combines traditional brass band music with bebop, jazz, funk, and R&B/soul, which they call “a musical gumbo.”
They have toured five continents and 30-plus countries, and have produced 16 albums. They are credited with revitalizing brass band music, spurring other musicians to form groups such as the Rebirth Brass Band.
Their current lineup includes Roger Lewis and Kevin Harris on sax and vocals; Gregory Davis on trumpet and vocals; Kirk Joseph on Sousaphone; T.J. Norris on trombone and vocals; Julian Addison on drums and Takeshi Shimmura on guitar.
